Biological activity and persistence of pirimiphos-methyl applied to maize grain at different temperatures AGRIAMBI
Silveira,Rodrigo D.; Faroni,Lêda R. A.; Guedes,Raul N. C.; Queiroz,Maria E. L. R.; Pimentel,Marco A. G..
The expansion of dryeration may impose a further problem for insect control with protectants - the high grain temperatures during insecticide spraying. To assess the impact of this procedure on insecticide activity, maize grains at different temperatures (25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 °C) were sprayed with pirimiphos-methyl. Residue analyses were carried out every 30 days and insecticide biological activity towards Sitophilus zeamais and Tribolium castaneum was assessed every 15 days throughout the experimental period of 90 days. Insect mortality was evaluated after 48 h. Pirimiphos-methyl residue decreased with increased storage time and grain temperature during spraying. Similar trends were also observed for mortality of S. zeamais and T. castaneum, which...

Lancelle,Hugo G.; Giordano,Oscar S.; Sosa,Marta E.; Tonn,Carlos E..
Toxic and repellent properties of whole essential oils from four Eupatorium (Asteraceae) species (E. buniifolium Hook. et Arn, E. inulaefolium Kunth, E. arnottii Baker, and E. viscidum Hook. & Arn) were investigated in different concentrations toward Tribolium castaneum Herbst adults. The essential oils were isolated by hydrodistillation techniques from the aerial parts. The analysis was performed by GC-FID and GC-MS methods. Contact toxicity assays showed that all the evaluated essential oils were toxic. Furthermore, in all the cases mortality was dose dependent. The main repellency was observed for the essential oil recovered from E. buniifolium.

Vadlapudi,Varahalarao; Amanchy,Ramars.
ABSTRACT Nanobiotechnology deals with the properties of nanomaterials and their potential uses. Here we report for the first time novel, cost-effective and eco-friendly method for the rapid green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using leaf extracts of Myriostachya wightiana. The growth of silver nanoparticles was monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy complemented by Zeta potential, dynamic light scattering technique (DLS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band found at 434 nm confirmed the reduction of AgNO3 to AgNPs. TEM micrographs revealed that AgNPs are irregular in shape with the size range from 15-65 nm. The functional groups...

Pimentel,Marco A G; Faroni,Lêda R D'A; Silva,Felipe H da; Batista,Maurílio D; Guedes,Raul N C.
The resistance to fumigant insecticides in stored-products insects is often recorded. Several factors influence the evolution of insecticide resistance. Among these, the frequency of applications and the migration of resistant populations are of primary importance for the stored-product insects. The aim of this study was to characterize the spectrum and investigate the status of phosphine resistance in Brazil, in 13 populations of the Coleoptera Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Tenebrionidae), ten populations of Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabr.) (Bostrichidae), and eight populations of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Silvanidae). The pattern of resistance dispersion in the populations of these species was also verified. The bioassays for the detection of phosphine...
